Having the External Examiner participate in the Oral Defence by telephone or videoconferencing may be a viable alternative in cases where funding or timing do not allow for in-person attendance. For theses in language programs, some questions can be posed or answered in the language concerned, provided the Examination Committee can follow proceedings by translation if necessary in this other language.
Thursday, 13 June – Once the Candidate’s dissertation has been sent to the External Examiner, a due date for the external report is set. Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will normally begin the task of finding a suitable Examination Chair after the Oral Defence date, time and location have been finalized.
Thesis Availability Your thesis will be available online in 3 – fofs days. This provides the Candidate with an opportunity to become familiar with the room, the audiovisual equipment, and to sort out any technological issues before the thesiis of the Oral Defence. To give room booking priority to Candidates seeking to book Oral Defences, practice sessions can be booked a maximum of 4 weeks in advance.
